Unlike most of the hand emojis, the raised back of hand emoji shows – as the name rightly suggests! – the back rather than the palm of the hand. It is a disembodied hand with no embellishments or clothes. It is usually a characteristic emoji yellow color, though Samsung use a light Caucasian skin tone and, additionally, some other platforms allow for skin tone modification. It usually depicts the right hand, with only Facebook, Samsung and Google showing the left hand. It has a number of meanings, including to tell someone to stop or halt, or as a simple salutation. It can also be used to grab someone’s attention, or to simply refer to a hand or hands.

This emoji was first introduced in Unicode 9.0 on 21st June, 2016 which was followed by addition to Emoji 3.0 in the same month and featured in September, 2014 iOS 10 update. Raised Back of Hand emoji appeared on iOS 10.2, Android 7.0, EmojiOne 2.2.4 for the first time.
